Although I’ve never been a huge baseball fan, I do enjoy the rhythm and pace of the game. I liken it to fishing; a lot of nothing until everything happens all at once and you “catch” a moment. Nailing an image comes with great satisfaction.
I have not shot it much since college when I worked for Ohio Athletics. This year, however, I had the opportunity to photograph Tennessee’s baseball season all the way to the College World Series. The Vols lost their first two games but I spent the entire two weeks in Omaha, Neb., covering Tennessee along with USA Today Network South Region teams Mississippi and Vanderbilt. Oddly enough, the two played one another in the championship game. It ended with huge excitement when the MSU Bulldogs won over Vandy and celebrated their first national championship title in school history.
The first half of the month was filled with working on a project series (that will hopefully publish soon) and covering high school graduations. Additionally, if you have not checked it out already, tune in to The Scruffy Stuff, a weekly news podcast about downtown Knoxville trends and topics!
