You win some, you lose some.
This November pales in comparison to last year where I covered a Trump rally and finished a video series. However, this past month was especially hard for me.
Actually, this *entire year* has been incredibly hard for me.
From veteran reporters and editors leaving our newsroom, to the merger between Gannett and Gatehouse and the daily grind, the year has been distressing in many respects.
It’s easy to blame the current state of the newspaper industry on my general anxiety, but I have to remember that these are some of the hardest times that journalism has ever faced. Our editor said in a recent meeting, “Won’t it be cool at the end of our careers to look back and say, ‘We made it. We were the ones that figured it out,'” referring to the digital revolution.
I find that very encouraging. And that’s why I’m still here doing what I love. It’s been a long time since I’ve said I shoot for a newspaper; instead I shoot for a news website, and that’s pretty dang cool.
