VIDEO VIDEO VIDEO!

Video was the bane of my college existence. Why should I learn video if all I want to do is photography?

I would never have taught myself how to shoot video, use an H4N or Adobe Premiere had it not been for the multimedia classes VisCom required me to take.

Today, I am thankful I suffered through those classes. Here at the good ole ~USA-Today Network Tennessee~ we are required to shoot video with every one of our assignments. People love to scoff at that and say “What omg how” but it really ain’t that bad after doing it every single day. I would have been ill prepared for my job without the video skills I was required to learn, and for that I am happy and thankful.

In fact, video has actually become sort of fun. Some in our office have even told me Buzzfeed is going to hire me away if I keep making these videos. I’ve done some “higher production value videos” like a weird beef jerky taste-test video, video tours of a new wine store and Margaritaville, our new urban life reporter (who hates spicy food) trying hotwings, and even a video of myself sharing tips for photographing fireworks

I should stop before they actually do hire me 😬
