March 2017

March 2017

March was an odd month. As soon as it started it quickly came to an end, but in retrospect it felt like a very long month. I spent the beginning of the month photographing high school women’s basketball finals in Murfreesboro, TN, (that blog post here) and ended it chasing thunder storms.

There have also been significant changes in the newsroom and our day-to-day operation. 12 staffers were also laid off this month due to budget cuts, and everyone has more duties than ever before. My co-worker Michael Patrick had a cardiac arrest before St. Patrick’s Day and many of his duties fell on the rest of the photo staff. He is recovering and in good health but is still out on sick leave.

We have been managing fairly well, but I am certainly witnessing the ever changing character of the news industry. Here are some of my favorite frames from March and early April.
