Work of August 2016

Work of August 2016

My 12-week summer internship with my hometown newspaper, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, came to an end last Saturday after photographing the riots. I spent the remainder of my summer break (one week) doing some hiking, going to the lake, visiting friends and family. After three internships now, I’ve found August to be a somewhat slower month for photo. I’ve typically had less assignments, but those assignments are often ones where I am able to spend more time. August is also a month of transition where students prepare to return to school, myself included. I’ll be graduating as a senior this December from Ohio University.

Here are some of my selects from August. Included are internship work, a senior portrait and some of my own.

When he learned he would be granted a wish by Make-A-Wish Wisconsin, he wanted others to benefit. He is putting together a charity fundraiser showcasing the talent of people he knows who rap, sing and create art on Sunday at the Hyatt Regency. CALVIN MATTHEIS/calvin.mattheis@jrn.com
