Work of July 2016

Work of July 2016

It is hard to believe that this is my third summer photojournalism internship. When I think back to my my first internship in Hutchinson, Kansas, I begin to feel oddly nostalgic. Perhaps because I miss all of the great people I met and worked with, but more likely  because life seemed so much simpler back then. I did not know much about photojournalism and the news industry. I went into assignments with an innocent curiosity and desire to learn. With every passing year, semester, internship and job I like to think the pieces are starting to come together.

I asked my close friend Sarah Stier if she ever had any “Aha!” moments in photography. I explained to her that my first Aha! moment came in Hutchinson when, from one day to the next, it seemed I developed a better sense of timing my photos. The next Aha! moment came in Naples where I began to see compositions (thank you for your help Corey Perrine and Scott McIntyre!). This summer I had another Aha! moment when light clicked for me. Where I used to ignore light quality I now lust after those golden rays.

Here are some of my favorite frames from July. My first ten days of July were taken up with Summerfest, and you can see those photos in my last blog post.
