The annual Halloween Block Party in Athens continues to amaze me. The creativity and originality that some people put into their costumes is inspiring. Some of the best I saw were neon cat, a giraffe, the Grim Reaper and several Donald Trump’s. Thousands of people swarmed to Court Street to listen to music at two stages. The electronic/dance music stage was arguably more popular than the rock music stage. However, with so many people crammed shoulder to shoulder in the small Court St & Union Street intersection there was no quick way to make it across the street. The threat of being trampled was clearly evident when the crowd began swaying back-and-forth. After finishing his set, Athens DJ B-Funk’s proposed to his girlfriend – and she accepted! It was a very touching moment and I’m glad to have witnessed it.
This was my third time photographing HallOUween (as us OU kids like to call it) and I try to come away with something different every time. If I were to cover this for a news outlet I would have approached it differently but this is a chance for me to be creative and play with my camera. I like to head out with one lens and one camera; this time my 6D with a 28mm f/1.8 and an off-camera flash. I’ve never used this lens before so it was a learning experience. Here are some of my favorites from the evening!
